The primary product of milk

Milk is one of the most important primary products in the world. It’s not just raw milk or UHT milk. Many different products can be produced from this primary product as well. From hard, soft and liquid cheese to cream and powdered milk,– milk has an extensive portfolio of products. Additionally, yoghurt, curd and kefir can be produced from curdled milk.

Milk can also be found in other foodstuffs such as chocolate, pastries, nougat and ice cream.

Water, fat and protein are the most significant constituents of milk, which is what makes this primary product so easily perishable. Milk is made to be longer-lasting by means of a complex process called pasteurisation, where the milk is heated and sterilised. This process prevents bacteria from reproducing too quickly in the milk and makes the milk keep longer.

Properties of milk tanks

In addition to the cooling function which is indispensable with milk tanks that transport fresh milk, they have many additional properties.
A separate cleaning system that works automatically is just one of many possibilities. An automatic cleaning system allows for an additional step to be omitted and is carried out in the tank. External cleaning processes generally take longer. 

What’s also important is the milk temperature display for ensuring that the milk is neither too cold nor too warm. A gauge that measures how many litres are currently in the tank is also important so that the tank isn’t overfilled. To save energy, the tank should have a good ratio of milk content to evaporator surface area. This achieves shorter cooling times, saving time and money.

Using milk tanks as transport tanks

Milk tanks can also be included in the category of transport tanks. Transporting milk from the farmer to the dairy requires a milk tank that meets all the requirements of a normal milk tank while being safe to transport. The tank must therefore be highly stable and lightweight.

Milk tanks are made of stainless steel, which often makes them very expensive. Stainless steel ensures the tank isn’t corroded or damaged by other emissions. It also allows the tank to be easily cleaned, so it can be used for a practically indefinite amount of time.

Aluminium is only suitable to a limited extent or not at all as a material for milk tanks. It’s a very weak substance, which would probably cause the tank to wear down faster in day-to-day usage. In addition, aluminium does not have suitable properties that are needed for transporting and storing foodstuffs. For this reason, aluminium is not used for milk tanks.
