Urea tank

Urea tanks are often used as transport tanks. They can be seen on construction and agricultural machinery, lorries and buses. However, urea tanks for storage must also fulfil additional stipulations. In agriculture, urea is used as fertiliser.

As one of Europe's four major specialist dealers, we often know first where one or more tanks are about to be removed. After all, it often takes several weeks before such objects are on our yard. We are also happy to use our direct lines among European container dealers for you and listen in to see if the container you are looking for might be available there.

Urea tanks in agriculture

Urea solutions are used in agriculture as fertiliser. Urea is a natural compound and can be produced by combining carbon dioxide and ammonia. Urea tanks must meet stipulations similar to those of UAN tanks.

The stipulations which must be met by urea tanks is determined by the Federal Water Act (Wasserhaushaltsgesetz [WHG]). The condition of the tank as well as its place of use must be taken into account. For example, a retention basin is required when filling and emptying the tank so that the liquid can be caught in case it is lost. Section 3 of the Federal Water Act outlines which points must be observed. Before a urea tank is set up and put into operation, its suitability must be determined by a relevant authority. Checking for suitability may not be necessary if there is licence for the usage of the tank and said approval „implies adherence to water quality requirements“ (§63 par. 3).

Cleaning urea tanks

Specific provisions must be observed for the maintenance and cleaning of urea tanks. It is important that no liquids from these tanks are able to enter the groundwater during cleaning. For agricultural operations, this means that special attention must be paid to the tank’s place of use. This is because in order to carry out the cleaning process in a simple and safe manner, the tank containing liquid fertiliser or other liquids that are hazardous to water must be supported securely and must not impact the environment if liquid is lost.
